This Privacy Policy applies to the Lexi Scan – AI Flashcards Maker app ("Application") for mobile devices, developed by Duyen Dinh ("Service Provider") as a free service.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect any personally identifiable information. The Application does not require you to create an account and never collects your name, email address, or any information that could identify you.
The Application collects anonymous usage data to understand how the app is used and help improve it. This data may include, but is not limited to: actions taken within the app (such as starting a review session, adding cards, rating cards, or completing onboarding), language preferences selected during setup, study goal categories, session duration, and card counts. This data contains no personal information and cannot be used to identify you.
The analytics service we use also automatically collects information such as, but not limited to, your device type, operating system version, and a randomly generated anonymous device identifier that is not linked to your identity.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
All of the following is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to our servers:
- Your flashcard words, translations, and decks
- Study progress and review history
- App preferences (language pair, study direction, streak)
- Your Gemini API key (if you choose to provide one)
3. AI Features — Google Gemini
When you use the Text Scan or Camera Scan features, content you provide — including but not limited to pasted text, photos you take, or images you select from your library — is sent to Google's Gemini API for vocabulary extraction. This feature only activates when you explicitly tap the scan button. The Service Provider does not receive or store this content.
This data is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Google's Generative AI Terms.
Your Gemini API key is your own key, stored only on your device, and is never sent to the Service Provider.
4. Translation — MyMemory
When you add a new word, the Application may send information including but not limited to the word being translated and its associated language pair to MyMemory (api.mymemory.translated.net) to retrieve a translation. No other information is sent. This service is subject to MyMemory's Terms of Service.

6. Device Permissions
The Application may request device permissions including but not limited to:
- Camera — used only when you choose to scan text from a live photo, for the purpose of capturing vocabulary from physical materials.
- Photo Library — used only when you choose to select an existing image for scanning. The Application accesses only the image you explicitly select.
These permissions are requested only at the moment you use the relevant feature and are not used for any other purpose.
7. Children
The Application does not knowingly target children under the age of 13. Since the Application does not collect any personal information and all user data is stored locally on the device, the Service Provider is unable to identify whether any specific user is a child, or to locate and delete data associated with a particular individual.
If you are a parent or guardian and have concerns about your child's use of the Application, the most effective action is to uninstall the Application from their device, which will permanently remove all locally stored data. You may also contact us at lexiscan.aiflashcardsmaker@gmail.com, and while our ability to act is limited by the anonymous and local nature of the app, we will respond to your inquiry.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
- Flashcard data: Lives entirely on your device. Delete it anytime via Settings → Delete all cards. Uninstalling the app removes all local data.
- Analytics data: Retained by PostHog in accordance with their data retention policy. Because events are fully anonymous, it is not possible to identify or delete events belonging to a specific user.
9. Security
All data transmitted to third-party services (including but not limited to PostHog, Google Gemini, and MyMemory) is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. Your flashcard data never leaves your device.
10. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically. We will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Application after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

1. The Service
Lexi Scan is a free flashcard application that uses spaced repetition to help you learn vocabulary. It is provided by Duyen Dinh ("Service Provider") strictly on an "as is" and "as available" basis.
2. Your Gemini API Key
The AI scanning features require a free API key from Google AI Studio. By using this feature, you agree to Google's Terms of Service and Google's Generative AI Terms. The Service Provider is not responsible for any costs, quota limits, changes to Google's API pricing, or any consequences arising from your use of a third-party API key.
3. Your Data
All flashcard data (words, decks, progress) belongs to you and is stored only on your device. The Service Provider does not access, back up, or hold your flashcard data. If you delete the app or lose your device, your data cannot be recovered by the Service Provider. You use the Application with full understanding of this limitation.
4. Accuracy of AI Results
The AI-generated vocabulary extractions and translations are provided for convenience only. The Service Provider makes no warranty, express or implied, that such output is accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose. You are solely responsible for verifying any content generated by the Application before relying on it.
5. Third-Party Services
The Application integrates with third-party services including but not limited to the following. Your use of these services is subject to their own terms, and the Service Provider accepts no responsibility for their availability, accuracy, or conduct:

You agree not to use the Application to, including but not limited to:
- Submit illegal, harmful, or abusive content to any AI or translation feature
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, modify, or exploit the Application
- Use the Application in any way that violates applicable local, national, or international law
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Application and all features within it are provided strictly "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, or non-infringement. The Service Provider makes no representations or warranties that:
- The Application will be error-free or uninterrupted
- Any AI-generated vocabulary, translation, or other output will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any purpose
- Any third-party service (including but not limited to Google Gemini, MyMemory, or PostHog) will remain available, accurate, or free of charge
- Data stored on your device will not be lost due to device failure, operating system updates, or any other cause
You use the Application entirely at your own risk.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Service Provider, its developer, affiliates, and licensors shall have no liability whatsoever for any loss or damage of any kind arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Application. This includes but is not limited to:
- Loss of flashcard data, study progress, or any content stored on your device
- Inaccurate, misleading, or incorrect AI-generated vocabulary or translations
- Costs, charges, or quota limits incurred through your use of a third-party API key (including Google Gemini)
- Any actions, decisions, or outcomes made in reliance on content generated by the Application
- Interruption or unavailability of the Application or any third-party service it depends on
- Any security incident, data breach, or loss affecting data stored locally on your device
- Any harm, direct or indirect, resulting from your use of or inability to use the Application
The Service Provider accepts no responsibility for any consequences, direct or indirect, resulting from your use of this Application or any third-party service accessed through it.
In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability, the Service Provider's liability is limited to the minimum extent permitted by law.
9. Changes to These Terms
These Terms may be updated periodically. The effective date at the top will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the Application after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
